Covid - 19

I am unpleased with the way Governor DeSantis has handled Covid-19. There have been 12,786 deaths due to Covid-19 in FL alone. At this rate we will reach close to ten times more than the yearly death total due to the flu.

We have a responsibility to protect our elders and each other; The same way a driver has a responsibility to not reckless drive because there are other people on the road. Don’t be a reckless driver, wear a mask and sanitize your hands often.

According to the Institute of Health Metrics and Evaluation 33,000 deaths could be avoided by October 1 if 95 percent of people wore masks in public, nationwide.

I believe in limited government that only steps in for life or death situations, and situations that are too large for an individual to handle. This is one of those situations. People are not wearing masks in public, putting the health of others at risk. Clearly we need a mask mandate.

What does a mask mandate look like? Any public situation there needs to be law enforcement carrying masks for those who don’t have one. Their job is to protect and serve.

Preparing for the future: This won’t be the last time we are taken by surprise and will need to respond quickly. As a legislator I will take responsibility to push for emergency fund allocation so that our economy and workers do not have to struggle like they have during Covid-19.
